Cannot change cell properties in Excel

I found that I couldn’t change the fill colour in a specific spreadsheet created by another user.

This is caused when cells or worksheets are subject to conditional formatting.

To change the cell or entire worksheet and depending upon which version of Excel you have select  Home > Conditional Formatting > Clear rules

Unable to change the cell shading in a spreadsheet using Excel 2007

When I tried to change the cell fill in one of my spreadsheets the new shading wasn’t applied.

I found that the cells were actually conditionally formatted and had to remove this formatting restriction.

1. Select the cells that you wish to change

2. Select Home > Styles > Conditional Formatting

3. Select Clear Rules and Clear Rules from Selected Cells
