An “IDE controller is found but the virtual machine does not support the option” error after a P2V conversion the VM will not start

 

Received this error after trying to carry out a desktop P2V conversion to an ESXi 5.1.0 server.

 

When looking at the settings the disk is clearly unsupported and I am surprised that the converter allowed conversion of IDE rather than automatically setting it to a compatible SCSI controller and disk

 

 

No workaround unfortunately – just did the conversion again but this time changed the source disk (in Devices) to SCSI LSI Logic SAS during the conversion configuration which worked
