How to configure Windows 2000 Server to allow remote desktop connections

In later versions of Windows you can simply allow access to users to connect to the server using permissions. However in Windows 2000 Server you need some additional configuration to allow remote desktop connection:

  • Click Start > Settings > Control Panel and Add/Remove Programs
  • Select Add/Remove Windows Components and tick the Install Terminal Services checkbox
  • When prompted select Remote Administration mode

You should now be able to connect to the server using a remote desktop client.
